After bargain shopping for decorations to use in my new apartment, I loved every single piece I bought. I thought my apartment was going to be perfect. There was only one problem, none of them looked nice together.
Little did I know, there was a key to decorating using the color wheel to make each room feel and look the way I envisioned. Today, I want to share a little about what I learned about color schemes, I just hope I reached you before you make my mistake.
When it comes to color, keep in mind there are warm and cool colors. So when you are planning to paint or bring new accessories into a space think about how you want the room to feel. Warm colors make a space feel happy, vibrant and full of energy. Cool colors foster a soothing, peaceful and relaxing feel to a room. Don’t be scared to combine these for a fresh and cheerful space.
Now lets learn how to use them. Here are four basic tricks from the color wheel:
This is a one-color show! A monochromatic color scheme uses one color in varying intensities from light to dark.
Love your neighbors! An analogous color scheme uses 2-6 neighbor colors of the wheel together. These colors will look different from each other, but still have a common resemblance. It allows you to add some color without getting too overpowering.
The bold zone! A complimentary color scheme uses contrasting colors by choosing hues that are directly across from each other on the color wheel.
Maybe lime and pink? Don’t be afraid to change the color’s intensity to create interest in pieces.
Far, far away from the safe zone! A triad color scheme is bold, yet balanced. It is made up of any three colors that form a triangle in the center of the wheel. If you follow this rule, your room will be bold, but it will work.
Look at this fierce room,
or maybe something a little less dramatic.
I hope you keep in mind these color wheel tricks when you are redecorating. What color scheme will you try next?
